Food and Drink
All our food is prepared here on the premises, using as much local produce as possible. Every morning finds one or two of the Chefs making up all the dishes that appear on our menu and specials board.
All of our beef, comes from Kestle Farm, not ten miles from here. Farmed by the Lobb brothers, Terry, Ian and Richard, the beef is South Devon and Limousin Cross and is delicous! They grow all their own feed for the cattle and great care is taken over them. They take great pride in their animals and are completely endorsed by the R.S.P.C.A 5 freedom act, which is Freedom from hunger, pain , thirst, fear and freedom of movement. It is really great to be using meat which is so local and a good working relationship with the Lobb brothers has developed. The brothers have the famous farm shop at The Gardens of Heligan, called Lobbs Farm Shop. Definately worth a visit, the shop is stunning, the best of all things Cornish. If you would like more information please go to www.lobbsfarmshop.com
Most of our fish is caught locally, and although we have a few fishermen who deliver to our back door, we buy a lot of our fish from Rob Wing of St Mawes, if you want more information about Wings please go to www.wingofstmawes.co.uk , he also has a delivery service to your door should you wish to buy fresh fish and eat it at home, the link for that is www.thecornishfishmonger.co.uk
Our specials board generally has at least 4 or 5 different sorts of fish on it. The board changes daily according to what is available. Don't forget that if you want to order something special, for example, ‘Lobster' for an evening, if you give us a couple of days notice we can usually oblige.

Our puddings are always popular, all home made and most are served with a dollop of Local Clotted cream, mmmmmmm.
We have finally this year seem to have got ourselves a ‘signature' dish.... This is the Ruan Duckling. Bred and raised by Roger Olver and Tanya Dalton of the Cornish Duck Company we consider this is a really special dish with a wonderful play on the name. Slow roasted, all bones removed, crispy Skin and served with a warm Pepper Sauce it has been a huge success this year and we plan to keep it on the Menu for some time to come!
Because we are a Free House and not governed by anyone other than ourselves we are able to change the menu when we feel like it. Generally we change it 4 or 5 times a year, reflecting the changes in season. Hot and Cold Soups in Summer, Pheasant and Venison Dishes in Autumn/Winter, various Shellfish as they come in and out of season, just to name a few.
Above all, fresh, good quality ingredients, well prepared with time and thought given to how it should be.

Whilst we welcome ' Well Behaved Little Ones', we don't keep a childrens Menu.
We take great pride in our local Beer at the Kings Head, stocking at least three and featuring a guest ale from time to time. They all come from ‘Skinners' Brewery in Truro. All prize winners at some time or other we generally keep ‘Betty Stogs', ‘Cornish Knocker' and brewed specially for us ‘Kings Ruan'. Owned and run by Steve and Sarah Skinner and their team, they make a great product and are a pleasure for us to deal with. Three years ago they launched ‘Skinners Cornish Lager', which has also done very well, (needless to say, we stock that as well!)
August 2008 . Truro's Skinners Brewery have just won 'Best British Bitter', with 'Betty Stogs' at the CAMRA event, the great British Beer Festival at Earls Court in London, this is a very high accolade as she was up against the whole of Great Britain, well done Skinners!!!!
As of April 2009 we now stock ' Cornish Rattler' a cloudy, fizzy cider and is to be respected, but loved.....at 6%ABV on draught in the bar, it's lovely, described as light and refreshing with a delicate aroma of ripe apples........
We take great care of our beers and lagers and for three years running now we are the only Pub on the Roseland Peninsula to be featured in the C.A.M.R.A. Good Pub Guide.
We keep a good selection of Wines on our list at the Kings Head, we hope, ‘something for everyone' and to suit most pockets. We use Christopher Piper as our Wine supplier and they have looked after us very well since opening. We occasionally have a ‘Special' which we promote. For example Christopher Piper has his own vineyard in France and makes amongst his other wines, a ‘Beaujolais Nouveau', this has been outstandingly successful for the last two years, frankly it is stunning! Lets hope this years vintage is just as successful!
